Nortel Networks Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday. Nortel, which is the biggest phone equipment producer in North America's has been having debt problems lately, which left the company with no choice but bankruptcy. The Toronto-based Nortel was at one point the biggest Canadian company, but wasn't able to stay competitive in the face of worsening economic conditions.

Anybody still thinking that the Canadian economy is doing well?

I wonder how many people will lose their jobs?

Thousands I guess.

There will be many more Canadian companies going under this year, this is just the beginning.

I don't think that they'll be that many job losses.

Any update on Nortel? How many jobs are they going to slash?
Do you think Air Canada will be next?

Air Canada filed for bankruptcy protection on 1 April 2003, and exited bankruptcy protection on 30 September 2004. That said, it may happen again :).
