A hedge fund is an investment fund that pools money from individual investors and then invests the money on their behalf. Hedge funds are usually not constrained in the investment techniques they use, in contrast with mutual funds, which are heavily regulated. Because of that hedge funds utilize a variety of investment strategies (leverage, long positions, short positions, derivative positions, etc.). The goal of hedge funds is to generate high return for their investors, while managing risk.
